WE ARE UNITED IN PURPOSE
CURRENTLY, 32% STUDENTS CAN READ AT A THIRD-GRADE LEVEL OR ABOVE. WE MUST DO BETTER.
UNITED for LITERACY was born from the understanding that if a child cannot read at grade level by third grade, that child is four times more likely to drop out of school. Third grade is a critical milestone in a child’s education, during which they are expected to transition from learning how to read to reading to learn. Research indicates that reading below expected third-grade levels is highly linked to future school and life challenges.
UNITED for LITERACY is a comprehensive approach to improving literacy in Winnebago County. Using research-based strategies that include funding needle-moving interventions, parental engagement, volunteer mobilization, caregiver support, and community awareness, we help put children on the path to success. When our children succeed, our community thrives.
